Pui Ching students win gold medal in International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition2023-11-07

Our school team won the gold medal in the 2023 International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition. In addition, our students made it to the top five teams globally in the categories of Best New Composite Part and Best Model. The judges were highly impressed with our team's use of AI mathematical models to simulate the interactions of two innovative synthetic proteins, RPA1-mCherry and ATRIP-EGFP, within cancer cells undergoing genetic mutations. Our candidates accurately predicted the effective protein distances that could produce visible fluorescence, providing strong evidence for the novel, quick, and low-cost system that our team proposed for detecting genetic mutation. The recognition of the judges affirms the research and efforts of our students in developing a simplified and widely accessible carcinogen testing procedure.
