Students from the secondary school wind orchestra and the primary school English practice class and choir put on the English musical Esther to raise money for the Portugal Valley of Blessings Charity Association, which aims to help low-income families, single parents, orphans and other members of the underprivileged community.  The musical raised over MOP$ 500,000 for the association.

Principal Dr. Kam Fai Kou extended his gratitude to the school board of trustees and honorary trustees, alumni, parents and teachers for their support of the charity event.  Since 2013, Pui Ching has organized musicals to raise money for different causes, including the WATOTO scheme for child care, the United Nations Children’s Foundation, and Wen Ce Elementary School of Yingde City.  The preparation for Esther took almost a year, gathered over 170 students from both the secondary and primary school section, and featured solo as well as group performances.  Pui Ching has always encouraged students to give back to their community through charity work, and it is hoped that this event has allowed students to experience the joy in helping others, taught them about the power of faith, and made them stronger people in the face of difficulties.

Mr. Manuel Ricardo da Silva, Chancellor of the Consulate General of Portugal in Hong Kong and Macao, was a guest at the musical, and so were representatives of the Porto Football Club of Portugal, who donated three autographed T-shirts from their own footballers for auction at the fundraising event.  In addition, donation boxes were set up and Esther-themed T-shirts sold to help victims in a forest fire in Portugal.  Even before the musical, parents, teachers, and the dance team had donated over MOP$ 80,000 to those affected by the fire.

Esther was adapted from the bible story of the same name.  It depicts how orphan Esther overcame the obstacles of life with her faith, love and hope and turned the tide of fate for her tribe.  The musical witnessed a full house of audience and concluded with smashing success.
