Consul General of Portugal in Macao and Hong Kong Mr. Vitor Sereno and Macao Portuguese Oriental Institute director Mr. Joao Neves visited Pui Ching on January 9th.

Mr. Vitor Sereno and Mr. Joao Neves arrived at Pui Ching in the afternoon and toured the China Culture House at school.  The China Culture House featured educational historical items such as Chinese fabric, implements of traditional tea ceremony, local artefacts of Macau, etc.  Among these items of display are found both student productions and alumni donations.  A student guqin recital and a student rendition of the tea ceremony both added to the cultural experience.  The visit to the Culture House was followed by a tour of the school Fabrication Laboratory.  Approved by the Center for Bits and Atoms of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Puiching’s Fab Lab became a member of the international Fab Lab network in August, 2016.  It is the first Fabrication Laboratory in Hong Kong and Macau and the second such laboratory among secondary schools in China.  Students demonstrated for the guests how the laboratory equipment work.  Cultural and technological elements of the tour showcased a juxtaposition of historical and scientific importance in Pui Ching’s curriculum.

Principal Dr. Kam Fai Kou pointed out that Pui Ching has always stressed the value of cultural literacy in education.  Due to Macao’s unique historical background, Pui Ching has had teacher and student exchange activities with Portugal for 20 years; graduates of Pui Ching have also taken up further education opportunities in Portugal and served as cultural bridges upon completion of their studies.

Mr. Sereno highly commended Pui Ching on its contribution to education in various areas, such as providing guidance to students on further education, preparing students for standardized tests, affording students a sense of belonging at school, organization of alumni networking events and enabling a channel for alumni’s continual support for their alma mater.
