The Roland Creativity Salon: Youth STEAM Education Forum and Workshop was organized by Pui Ching and Roland Digital Corporation (Shanghai) and held in the Pui Ching Assembly Hall today.  We had the pleasure of the company of Professor Hu Tie Jun of the FabLab Innovation Center of Zhongshan University as well as the presence of teachers and students from various primary and secondary schools in Macau. 

The current forum evolves around STEAM education.  With the development of the Internet and artificial intelligence, people have grown increasingly aware of the importance of education.  STEAM education is focused on hands-on learning, autonomous learning, interactive cooperation, innovative thinking and artistic thinking. 

President of Roland Digital Corporation (Shanghai) Mr. Huang Xue Xiu introduced at the forum that Roland Corporation designed a STEAM education curriculum grounded in hands-on learning.  The opening ceremony for the Roland Workshop co-organized by Pui Ching and Roland Corporation ensued, making Pui Ching the first school in the country to run the curriculum. 

STEM education has been a priority in recent years.  STEAM education combines STEM with the element of Art.  It explores the potential of students of different age groups and stimulates creative thinking through a series of activities and contests.  The Roland Forum and Workshop exposed current teaching practitioners to the latest developments in teaching and helped to improve science education in Macau.

Pui Ching teachers, students, parents, student flag bearers and the school wind orchestra participated in the Walk for a Million. Vice Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Mr. Ho Hau Wah, Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in Macau Mr. Zheng Xiao Song, and Commissioner of the Department of State Commissioner’s Office in Macau Mr. Ye Da Bo cheered the participants on during the march.

Pui Ching students entered for the Basic Law of Macau Wallpaper Contest and won various prizes.  The awards ceremony was held today at Tap Seac Square.  Student representatives of Primary 3C, Primary 1C, and Primary 3D cum Primary Volunteer Team respectively won the First, Second and Third Prize.  Their teachers Ms. Chan Lai Ling and Ms. Ng Wai Sin won the Excellent Instructor’s Award.

In the Secondary School Category, Senior 3A student Mr. Chan Hao Wang, Senior 3E student Mr. Wong Chi Long and Senior 2C student Ms. Ho Sok I won the Merit Award in the 2017 Basic Law Promotional Video Design Contest.

Pui Ching Middle School and Colegio de Santa Rosa de Lima played for the championship today in the Inter-School Women’s Category C Volleyball Competition.  Pui Ching won two games in succession and clinched the championship.
