A signing ceremony was held at the school assembly hall this morning with the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.  ICBC Retail Banking Department general manager Mr. Kai San Lao and Pui Ching principal Dr. Kam Fai Kou represented the bank and the school respectively in the signing of the agreement.

 

The signing ceremony marks the beginning of a partnership program which will bring the expertise of banking professionals to high school students in activities that aim to enhance student understanding of the world of finance.  The program is an initiative in response to the special administrative region’s Five-Year Plan for Regional Economic and Social Development and purports to raise student awareness of the economic status quo of Macau.  It will give students the opportunity to explore such areas as innovative finance and smart banking through a series of special topics including New E-Banking Services, Retail Banking, Investment and Financial Planning, and At the ICBC Headquarters.  The program also aims to give students a head start with career planning and life planning through fostering positive work ethics and effective communication skills.

The president and the director-general of the Macau Development Strategy Research Center Mr. Chi Wai Sio and Mr. Wa Hou Tai visited Pui Ching today with more than twenty committee members.  Seminars and a tour of Pui Ching’s laboratories introduced the experts to technology education at the school.  Mr. Sio gave recognition to Pui Ching’s contribution to technology education and expressed interest in sharing Pui Ching’s experience with the community at large.  It is hoped that this will promote innovation and enhance education for Macau’s technology talents.

Prof. Derek Siu-wing Or gives talk on innovative technology2016-09-23

World-renowned scholar in innovative technology Prof. Derek Siu-wing Or gave a talk to Senior 2 and 3 students in Pui Ching this morning on Smart Material Devices and Electromechanical Monitoring Technologies.  Prof. Or has 20 years of experience in research, product development, project planning, operations management, consultation, and higher education.  His outstanding work in production, education and research as well as specialization in smart sensor detection, new energy materials, devices and systems have won him both domestic and international renown. Prof. Or is currently teaching in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Hong Kong Polytechnic University.  He is a supervisor of doctoral research and one of the youngest professors and superviors in the department and university.  Prof. Or also volunteers as Pui Chings counselor in innovative technology.

Pui Ching principal Dr. Kam Fai Kou and teachers Mr. Chon Meng Wu, Ms. Chi Kei Mak, Ms. In Han Fong and Ms. Weng Cheng Chiang attended the 2016 National Day academic exchange trip to Zhengzhou and Beijing upon invitation by the Macau Education and Youth Affairs Bureau.  Close to 180 representatives from Hong Kong and Macau participated in the event and visited Henan University, Zhengzhou No. 47 Middle School, Henan Zhengdong Experimental Primary School, and Tsinghua University.  Ms. Chi Kei Mak addressed the audience on behalf of teachers from Macau at the dinner hosted by the Ministry of Education.

A talk on solar science2016-09-22

Various space scientists including Prof. Zhong Liu from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Prof. Bao Mei from the Macau University of Science and Technology gave a talk on solar science at Pui Ching.  Chief presenter Prof. Zhong Liu is the director of Lake Fuxian Solar Observatory at the CAS Yunnan Observatory.  He is also the project manager for the construction of the world’s largest 8-meter Ring Solar Telescope.  Students raised various interesting questions during the presentation and had a great time with the scientists.
