Students win championship at Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament2016-11-23
The Harvard-MIT Mathematics Tournament (HMMT) was held in early November. The only secondary school in Macau invited to the tournament, Pui Ching sent 6 Senior High School student representatives to the United States. The tournament featured individual and group competitions and Pui Ching won the First Place.
Started in 1998, the HMMT is an international mathematics competition, attracting almost 1,000 talented contestants from around the world every year. The tournament was held on November 11th and 12th at Harvard University, with 150 teams of talents gathering for the event. Senior students Mr. Hou Tin Chau, Mr. Chon kio Wong, Mr. Kai Cheong Choi, Mr. Cho Hou Tang, Ms. Wai Neng Lai, and Ms. Ho Ieng Ngai attended as a team under the supervision of their teacher Mr. Hong Kuan Tam. Mr. Hou Tin Chau clinched the First Place in both the individual and group competition. The team ranked the 4th in their final score. After the tournament, students toured Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Pui Ching students have always been known for their outstanding academic achievements in Mathematics and Science subjects and have won many awards in various interschool, local, national and international competitions, many times breaking Macau’s mathematics score records.
