The Invention and New Product Exposition was held from June 13 to 15 in Pittsburgh, U.S.A.  INPEX is the largest invention exposition in the United States and attracts people from all over the world every year.

This year, three primary school students from Pui Ching attended the exposition with their inventions.  Primary 6 student Mr. Pak Ian Ho and Primary 5 student Mr. Yin Long Wong won the Gold Award with the Voice Controlled Wheelchair and the Smart Fish Tank respectively.  Primary 6 student Mr. Man Hong Cheng won the Merit Award with his Hope for the Fluffy.  The three students also won the Gold Award in the 10^th International Festival of Creativity, and their instructors Mr. Kuok Chin Un, Mr. Lok Tin Sou, and Mr. Yiu Kon Ma received the Best Instructor’s Award.

This was the first time students from Macao won the Gold Award at INPEX.  The promotion of STEM education at Pui Ching has time and again seen positive learning outcomes.  Primary school students also won the Gold Award in the 68^th International Exhibition of Ideas, Inventions and Novelties (iENA) in Nuremberg, Germany.  Pui Ching has always been keen on fostering students’ innovation and contributing to the development of future talents.  It is hoped that students will continue to engage in academic exchange with fellow inventors from around the world and push themselves to think beyond their boundaries.

Renowned children’s writer, commentator, professor of Shanghai Normal University, and “lamplighter” of the promotion of Chinese children’s literature Prof. Zi Han Mei shared his reflections on various readings with senior primary students at Pui Ching today.  Under the theme “Literature is the guiding light of childhood and life”, Prof. Mei brought the school to life with his world of literature.  After the sharing session, Prof. Mei talked about his understanding of reading in the school library and autographed his books for the young readers.

The 8^th Macao Fashion Design Competition was hosted by the Macao Productivity and Technology Transfer Center and co-organized by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Cultural Bureau and Macao Center of Design.  An awards ceremony and winners’ work exhibition was held shortly after the competition.  The theme this year was the Story of Macao.  Each contestant portrayed Macao from their unique angle and brought their personal touch into the narrative.  Among hundreds of contestants, Pui Ching student Ms. Cheok Lam Chan came in as the champion and Ms. Kei Ian Ung the first runner-up.  Ms. Nga Weng Chan won two Merit Awards; Ms. Hon Sam Lou and Ms. Di Yu each received a Merit Award.

Schools in Macao have been devoting increased resources into digital learning and seen positive learning outcomes in recent years.  To further improve the quality of education and education management, Pui Ching and Broad Learning Education (Asia) Ltd. held a sharing session on digital education on June 13 in the assembly hall.  We had the pleasure of the company of representatives from Tak Sun School and St. Peter’s Secondary School, both seasoned schools in digital education in Hong Kong.  The guest speakers shared their valuable experience in the field.  Over a hundred teachers from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao attended the session.

Representatives from Tak Sun School, St. Peter’s Secondary School, and Pui Ching Middle School all shared experience on such topics as big data, digital learning, student data analysis, electronic administrative management, and digital education methodology.  The sharing session also expounded on the effect of the E-Class Parent-Teacher App and Powerlesson 2.0 Interactive Lessons on teaching and administrative management.  These platforms are expected to make classroom management more effective and improve student motivation and learning outcomes.  The CEO of Broad Learning Education (Asia) Ltd. also shared with teachers the latest development in digital teaching and learning.

The sharing session explored the potentials of digital teaching and learning and how good use of digital technology can create a sustainable digital campus.  At the end of the session, teaching practitioners went on a guided tour of Pui Ching and its special classrooms.  It is hoped that the tour has allowed the visitors a glimpse into digital learning at Pui Ching.
