Students harness AI to discover novel antimicrobial peptides2025-04-16
From April 7 to 11, the 2025 National Academic Conference of the Chinese Society for Cell Biology was held at the Zhuhai International Convention and Exhibition Center. As the largest and most prestigious academic conference in the field of cell biology in China, the event attracted renowned experts, academicians, and top scholars from various fields, totaling over 2,000 attendees covering multiple areas of research such as cell metabolism, neuroscience, stem cells, and organelle interactions.
Among the many academic presentations, the research results of a team of high school students stood out. The work of Grade 11 students Chan Hok Son, Chan Keng Lam, and Hoi Heng Un from Pui Ching was selected for presentation at the conference. The students presented their study titled "Discovery and screening of anticandidal peptides based on GAN and LSTM" at the conference’s sub-session on Artificial Intelligence and Life Health Research. Our students were the only high school representatives presenting at the conference.
The student research was conducted under the guidance of Mr. Wong Chan Lam of our Information Technology Department. The students’ advising professors were Dr. Wong Tok and Dr. Lei Su from the AI Drug Discovery Center of the Macao Polytechnic University.
